As the title implies, the music of the book is innovative, novel, and complex, while the look of the book is generally sloppy. It would have been so much easier to read if the publishers would have stretched the solos and extra page or so each, allowing the use of full five-line staves, larger system breaks for notes, and a generally less cluttered look. Poor publishing aside, however, this book is great for any snare drummer looking for challenging, innovative, and enjoyable performance music. Each solo in this book represent a wide array of styles and personalities and utilize many extended techniques. These qualities, coupled with the stress on hand interdependence and complex rhythms, make this book a great collection of snare drum recital material.
