Whitmarsh-Concerto for Drumset & Percussion Ensemble (SP) Solo DS/B/2V/X/3M/4-5T/P

Jamie Whitmarsh's Concerto for Drumset and Percussion Ensemble was the first place winner in the 2012 Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest. Written to explore the multiple roles of the drumset, this piece is dedicated to Derek Stoltenberg. This piece has three sections, each treating the drumset in a unique way. The first treats the instrument as a classical multi-percussion set-up. The second treats the instrument much more melodically by utilizing the differences in pitch between the drums and cymbals. The final section allows the drumset to do what it does best - groove! Duration: 12 minutes.
